Nutrient and heavy metal content of rapeseed (Brassica napus) irrigated with treated wastewater

چکیده
Field trials were conducted in winter season in two sites located about 20km north east of Cairo; Gabal Asfar farm (fertile soil) and Berka site (virgin soil). The trials aimed to evaluate the impact of rapeseed irrigation methods with secondary treated wastewater on yield ,quality trace elements and heavy metal content. The results clearly showed that rapeseed crop was not suited to the virgin soil as the crop produced 10% of the seed yield achieved at the fertile soil. There were significant increases in seed yield, straw and biological yields due to NPK application .Oil yields were 0.312 and 2.304 t ha on virgin and fertile soils, respectively. Treated wastewater supplied rapeseed with 35,43and 156% of the recommended requirements of N, P and K, respectively in the virgin soil while the corresponding values in the fertile soil were 79,96 and191% for N,P and K, respectively. Trace elements and heavy metal additions from wastewater were very small Seed analysis indicated that the ranges of heavy metals were within the normal ranges expected and were far below levels that would be of concern due to the high pH of both sites.

Alleviation of oxidative stress induced by drought stress through priming by β-aminobutyric acid (BABA) in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) plants. Neda Mohamadi1,2, Amin Baghizadeh3*, Sara Saadatmand1, Zahra Asrar4
The objective of this study was to investigate the role of β-aminobutyric acid(BABA) (0, 300µM) in reduction of oxidative damages in leaves and roots of Brassica napus L. under drought stress (0, -0.2, -0.4 MPa). β-aminobutyric acid was investigated as an internal regulator hormone and its role in defense mechanisms against biotic and abioticstresses. In this study, BABA pretreatment prevented...

Cadmium as a heavy metal is also considered as a serious threat for the environment. This element is accumulated in soil through industrial processes as well as phosphate fertilizers and aggregates into the food chain. This study was conducted in order to investigate the different levels of cadmium effects on growth features of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) plants. Root and shoot weight and heig...
متن کاملUnraveling the Genetic Basis of Seed Tocopherol Content and Composition in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.)
BACKGROUND Tocopherols are important antioxidants in vegetable oils; when present as vitamin E, tocopherols are an essential nutrient for humans and livestock. Rapeseed (Brassica napus L, AACC, 2 n = 38) is one of the most important oil crops and a major source of tocopherols. Although the tocopherol biosynthetic pathway has been well elucidated in the model photosynthetic organisms Arabidopsis...
متن کاملOil, erucic acid, and glucosinolate contents in winter hardy rapeseed germplasms
The US industry uses :18 million kg of high erucic acid oil annually, mostly from imports. Therefore, a large overall market potential exists for development of annually renewable domestic sources of erucic acid. The present research was conducted to characterize the winter hardy rapeseed germplasm for oil, erucic acid, and glucosinolate contents for use in breeding programs to develop commerci...
متن کاملEvaluation of Drought Tolerance in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) Cultivars Using Drought Tolerance Indices
Drought is the most significant constraint for crop production in arid and semi-arid regions. In order to assess drought tolerance in fifteen rapeseed (Brassica napus) cultivars using yield-based drought tolerance indices, two experiments were conducted at the research station of College of Agriculture, Shiraz University, Shiraz, Iran during 2009-2010 growing season. The cultivars were...
